Those Who Squat Get Noticed - Get 20% Off For The Month Of June.
Have you ever watched as man or woman walked into a party and immediately everyone in the room has taken notice of them within the first 30 seconds. When you squat people take notice even other weightlifters. They try to figure out what sport would require such incredible leg development. Is he/she a bodybuilder, powerlifter, football player, sprinter, speed skater, bobsledder, the possibilities are vast.
Comparisons will be drawn to the man having legs like tree trunks or references to him having, “Earl Campbell’s thighs” (retired- NFL fullback). Females who have tremendous leg development would be compared to “Flo Jo” (the late Olympic world record sprinter, Florence Griffith Joyner) or Olympic gold medal speed skater, Catriona Le May Doan. All comparisons are huge compliments and with great leg growth comes a great butt.
Some of the curious guests follow up by discreetly approaching the host and enquiring, “Who is that?” The host without batting an eye or turning their head to see who the person is replies, “Oh, that’s my friend Kelly”. You see the host has been through this before many times and noticed how Kelly’s presence consumes the oxygen in a room or bar or on the street until the oxygen deprivation returns to normal.
Throughout the evening, other guests will bypass the host altogether and approach Kelly directly and they don’t mince words. They’ll ask directly, “What sport do you play?” They’ll make sure that Kelly has a drink in his hand as they ask about his training regimen. Very little attention is asked about Kelly’s line of work, if he has children, marriage status, and no talk of politics or the weather. Basically, the question on everyone’s mind is how did he get those legs and what do I have to do to look like him? Kelly humbly reveals that the key to his leg development is simply squats, three (3) times per week. Invariably, Kelly will be asked to give advice on how one can improve their own legs. Again, the answer given is squats and more squats and to eat more.
When the time is right, the host may pull Kelly aside by the arm and ask him if he remembers a certain individual from earlier in the evening as that person wants to know his status, kids, no kids etc. Things can get tricky when there are numerous inquiries.
Family, friends and colleagues will all notice the “new you”. Some co-workers, male and female alike may find it irresistible to make a comment or two not in keeping with company policy.
Of course, for every up, there is also a down side. All the work Kelly puts into the gym to build those scintillating quads and glutes can result the occasional moment of embarrassment when he blows out the inseam of his pants 3-4 times a year. If it happen in public, it can be a little embarrassing but if it happens in private, it’s a badge of honor. Kelly and his drycleaner will have a unique bond as an invisible patch is used time and time again to repair the damaged pants. Eventually Kelly will be told, “This is the last patch, after this one, you’ll have to buy new pants.”
Kelly will know firsthand how difficult it is to buy a suit off the rack. Even the most skilled tailor will roll his eyes when a weightlifter enters a clothing store as he knows the work involved in butchering a suit off the rack to fit a serious weightlifter. Those who bodybuild or squat heavy are simply outliers; they have measurements that fall outside the assumptions of human proportion most tailors work with. Simply put, they’re a pain in the ass.
The average man or woman will require moderate tapering of a suit jacket and pants from the shoulders and chest to the waist making it easy to buy a suit off the rack. But in the case of a bodybuilder or modern day powerlifter there is a drastic drop in size from the chest and shoulders to the waist.
Something similar happens below the waist with those who squat a lot where the quads and hamstrings and glutes are significantly bulkier than the legs below the knee. Unfortunately, high-end clothing is not designed to fit bodybuilders or anyone with well-developed legs. The alternative is simple but expensive, buy custom made suits and pants. But they may need to have two sets of suits, one set for the off season weight and another for the competition weight. In the case of pro bodybuilders, their weight may fluctuate between 20-35 pounds. Additionally, their weight will tend to drop significantly once their days of competing have come to an end.
When Kelly buys a pair of jeans he should make sure they are actually longer than normal as they will often ride up on the thighs as you move from a seated to a standing position. No one wants to be seen wearing floods especially when you will get more stares than your non-squatting counterpart.
Those who squat will have one last thing to deal with, you will swear that someone has adjusted the rearview mirror in your car. In reality, your training has caused your legs and glutes to grow so significantly that you’re actually sitting higher in the seat thus requiring you to adjust your mirror. When it comes to squats, not all gains are measure in pounds and inches.
